Silverstone Classic 2016
08th August 2016

We are just about catching up with ourselves after a very busy weekend at The Silverstone Classic. With 4 cars competing with the HGPCA and 2 with the FJHRA we were certainly kept on our toes, working between the two paddocks with the Formula Juniors based in the National Pits and the HGPCA over at The Wing.

Our Formula Juniors were the first cars out on track throughout the weekend and amongst a field of 50 Martin Walford qualified 15th and Cameron Jackson 5th, both positions meant some exciting racing lay ahead. With a 2-part race spanning Saturday and Sunday, Martin and Cameron participated in some fantastic and at times, very close racing, with final results both in the top 10 with Cameron 4th and Martin 8th overall.

The HGPCA cars in contrast stole the show of the afternoons racing. We were providing trackside support for Barry Cannell in his Cooper T51, John Evans in his Brabham BT4, Rudi Friedrich in his Cooper T53 and John Clark in his Cooper T56. After a sunny qualifying session on Friday the Hi-Tech Team had secured excellent starting positions for the upcoming races. Rudi and Barry enjoyed some close racing with Rod Jolley and finished 4th and 6th respectively. Unfortunately John Clarke was a non-starter due to an issue with the water system. Sundays HGPCA race saw a racing incident during the race start and unfortunately the rest of the race seemed marred by these events, although luckily no drivers were seriously injured.

Participating in the Historic Touring Car Challenge, Miles drove with Philip Walker in his newly restored Cologne Capri. It was the debut drive for both Miles and Philip in the car which showed plenty of promise for future races, finishing 8th overall.

Returning late last night from more racing at Croft with our Formula Juniors, another fantastic weekends racing was had in the sunshine. Both Cameron Jackson and Jonathan Hughes provided plenty of on-track entertainment. With Jonathan securing pole, followed by Cameron in P2 the racing was very exciting and very close with Jonathan crossing the line first by only 0.1 of a second.

With upcoming races at Nurburgring and Oulton Park before this month is out, it certainly is a bumper year of racing for Hi-Tech Motorsport.
